Blepharoplasty Las Vegas

See Better & Look Better

Dr. Abrams treats a patient with cosmetic eyelid surgery.

Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic eyelid procedure that can enhance your appearance and, potentially, your vision. We perform this procedure in our Las Vegas and Henderson offices.

An improvement in your eyelids and eyes can significantly enhance your overall appearance. Age and genetics can cause the skin of your eyelids to become fuller, looser, or baggier, leaving your eyes looking tired, puffy, and older than you feel. Sometimes, these changes to the eyelids can even interfere with your vision. Fortunately, blepharoplasty is a procedure that can correct these problems.

What Can Eyelid Surgery Correct?

Eyelid surgery, also known as a lid lift or upper blepharoplasty, is a procedure to reshape sagging skin on the eyelids. An upper lid lift can remove excess skin and raise hooded or droopy eyelids. Lower lid surgery can remove eye bags and tighten loose skin. You can get upper and lower lid surgery simultaneously or as separate procedures.

Eyelid surgery can also correct ptosis, a condition in which significant upper eyelid drooping may limit your field of vision.

A good candidate for upper or lower blepharoplasty will usually have any of the following concerns:

  • Excess skin that hides the natural fold of the upper eyelids
  • Loose skin on the upper eyelids that interferes with vision
  • Droopiness, excess skin, and wrinkles in the lower eyelids
  • Dark circles and puffiness underneath the eyes

What Happens During Eyelid Surgery?

You will have one of the best oculoplastic surgeons in Las Vegas, Dr. Abrams or Dr. Shah, who will perform your blepharoplasty in our Las Vegas or Henderson clinics. Local anesthesia will be used to numb your eye and the area around it.

During upper eyelid surgery, your surgeon will make a cut along the fold of your eyelid. They will carefully remove excess skin and fat to make the lid look tighter and give your eyes a more awake appearance.

For lower eyelid surgery, your oculoplastic surgeon will make an incision below your eyelashes in the natural crease or inside the lower lid. They will gently remove or redistribute excess fat and tighten loose skin.

Surgery can take between 30 and 60 minutes per eyelid. After the procedure, you will rest in a recovery room where the medical staff can monitor your condition. Once you’re ready to go home, your doctor will give you instructions on how to care for your eyelids, including using medicated ointments to prevent infection.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery

Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure, so you’ll be able to go home after the surgery. Following the procedure, you must rest for a few days and elevate your head. Follow the aftercare instructions carefully to avoid complications like infection. Dr. Abrams or Dr. Shah will let you know when it’s safe to return to activities like work, exercise, and driving.

You may experience discomfort and other side effects, including:

  • Watery eyes
  • Light sensitivity
  • Puffy eyelids
  • Swelling and bruising around your eyes
  • Pain or discomfort

These side effects should resolve within a few days after surgery. We recommend applying a cold compress to reduce discomfort and swelling and taking over-the-counter pain medications such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen. You can wear makeup within the first week after your surgery.

Bruising and swelling typically fade within 10 to 14 days, at which point you’ll be able to see the final results of the surgery.
