Brow Lift Surgery

Skin and deep tissue in the forehead lose elasticity as we age, causing the brow line to sag and move closer to our lashes. We also begin to develop lines and creases between our eyebrows and on our forehead, leading to wrinkles and frown lines. A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, eyebrow lift surgery, or browplasty, can help correct these signs of aging.

What is a Browlift?

A brow lift is an outpatient cosmetic procedure that lifts the brow line and creates a more youthful, energetic appearance. This surgical procedure is often performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery and skin resurfacing to achieve a harmonious, rejuvenated result as part of a facial rejuvenation.

Benefits of a Brow Lift

A brow lift or eyebrow lift can:

  1. Remove or minimize lines, creases, and wrinkles
  2. Improve the appearance of sagging brows and skin around the brow and forehead
  3. Raise drooping eyebrows and eyelids, which may improve vision
  4. Provide a more refreshed and youthful appearance

How do I qualify for a Brow or Forehead Lift?

Those who inquire about a forehead lift surgery feel that their heavy brow line has made them appear tired, sad, or angry. If this sounds like you, an eyebrow lift may provide the improvement you desire.

Qualified Candidates for brow surgery include those who:

  1. Do not have a history of significant eye problems
  2. Do not smoke and remain in good health
  3. Do not have a history of excessive scarring or keloid formation

The Brow Lift Procedure

Eyelid and eyebrow lifting surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis by oculoplastic surgeons using a sedating/relaxing medication through an I.V. along with local anesthesia to numb the tissues.

The objective of a brow lift is to elevate the brow position, improve forehead lines and creases, and provide you with a more youthful appearance. During the consultation, you will meet with our doctors to discuss your unique concerns, desired results, and the surgical technique that will help to best address your unique anatomy.

Our plastic surgeons utilize the most advanced techniques to help you rejuvenate areas of the brow and forehead with natural-looking and beautiful results.

Depending on the surgical approach, eyebrow lift procedures take one to two hours to complete.

TECHNIQUES

Brow lift surgical techniques offered at Wellish Vision Institute:

Endoscopic Brow Lift. Utilizing an endoscope and small incisions along the hairline, our surgeon will release, lift, and reshape the brow and forehead skin. This endoscopic lift minimizes scarring.

Classic or Coronal Brow Lift. With the coronal lift technique, our surgeon will create an incision across the top of the scalp or a modified incision between the hairline and forehead. Following the incision, the brow and forehead will be released, lifted, and reshaped while excess skin and fat are removed.

Pre-Trichial or Lateral Brow Lift. With this technique, also known as a temporal lift or temporal brow lift, our surgeon will create an incision in front of (or just behind) the hairline above the sideburn. Through this incision, our surgeon will release the connective ligaments that pull the eyebrow downward and lift the outer portion of the eyebrow.

Internal Brow Lift. This procedure is ideal for patients with mild eyebrow descent with upper eyelid blepharoplasty surgery. Our facial plastic surgeon will elevate the eyebrow and sculpt the eyebrow fat through the same incision used for upper eyelid blepharoplasty.

As with all of our oculofacial surgical procedures, eyebrow lift surgery is performed with intravenous sedation and local anesthetic for the safety and comfort of our patients.

Results and Recovery After Brow Lift

Following forehead plastic surgery, you may experience swelling and bruising, which can migrate around your eyes and down your cheeks. You may also experience tightness and numbness around your brow line and forehead for a short time. The length of recovery time will depend on the technique utilized during forehead cosmetic surgery. Most patients can return to work after one or two weeks.

Most eyelid and eyebrow lift surgeries and their recovery periods are relatively painless, but temporary bruising and swelling last 1-2 weeks. Brow lift complications are rare but can include infection, numbness, and hair loss at the incisions.

Post-surgery recommendations following a forehead facelift include:

  1. Keep your head elevated for the first few days, even while sleeping.
  2. Use ice packs to control swelling.
  3. Protect your skin from the sun to help prevent scarring.
  4. Avoid strenuous exercise or lifting for several weeks to minimize pressure on the forehead.

Over time, swelling and bruising will disappear, and incision marks will fade to reveal a rejuvenated appearance.

Nonsurgical options like Botox can also help smooth wrinkles and lines caused by facial expressions like frowning or squinting. Botox can be used with a brow lift or as an alternative for those who want to avoid surgery. It can temporarily improve the look of frown lines and crow’s feet.

If you’re considering a facelift or other facial rejuvenation procedures, talk to our surgeons to see if an eyebrow lift might also benefit you.
